Re-Enrollment Information

Dear Parents:

Plans for the 2007-2008 school year are well underway. I trust you are planning to have your child return to LCA this fall. This has been a year of blessings and challenges for our ministry as for many of our families. However, we can rest in the knowledge that He does everything for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28). However, it is good to remember that "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Before you begin filling out forms and writing checks, I again encourage you to consider the following items. First, please review the philosophy statement of LCA. It states,

bullet

Latham Christian Academy is a distinctly Christian academic institution, supporting and supported by parents who have entrusted Christian teachers with the purpose of educating and training their children from a God-centered world view. Our goal is for each student to receive Jesus Christ as personal Savior, grow to be more like Him, and faithfully serve Him for his/her entire life. Everything is done to the glory of God.

This is a vital statement. LCA is not a reform school. LCA is not a "private" school. It is not just a haven from the influences of the world and secular education. LCA is distinctively and specifically a Christian school. Our main goal can be found in Romans 12:2,

bullet

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

We will continue to point each student to faith in Jesus Christ and then, once they are saved, to create in them a desire to be like Christ. Christian education should develop Christians whose activities in this life anticipate their eventual conformity to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29).

Because the Bible is clear that Christian education will only be effective in the life of a Christian, we have made some changes in our enrollment procedures for new students for this fall. Students wishing to enter LCA in grades 7-12 must give written testimony of their salvation. Because our goal is discipleship, we need saved students. Also, secondary students entering the school must have a minimum of 1.8 GPA. (Current students who have less thana 1.8 GPA will return on academic probation.)

Thirdly, we expect our families to desire specifically Christian education. We believe this can only be fully accomplished when the home, school, and church are working together in the life of a student. Therefore, we expect our families to be actively attending and involved in a local church that preaches the Word of God. For families wishing to entering the school this fall, if they do not have a church they regularly attend, they will be required to attend Latham Bible Baptist Church at least one service a week.

The outworking of this should be students who want to serve the Lord – some in full time Christian vocations and others through secular vocations. We will continue to encourage our students toward good, conservative Christian colleges and toward full time Christian vocations!

Please review the Parent/Student Handbook. It is vital that you read this document carefully. It is our desire that this document assist you and us in having a better understanding about what is expected for a student/family at LCA. We expect our families to be in agreement and supportive of the philosophy and guidelines of the school. We expect families that cannot agree to not re-enroll, but to find an educational setting in which they can be supportive and satisfied.

Enclosed with this letter you will find the 2007-2008 Tuition and Fee Schedule, the Re-enrollment Form, and the Student Agreement Form (grades 5-12). Please take the time to carefully consider each item.

The tuition increase for next year is about 5%. The majority of the increase is going into our teachers’ salaries. About 80% of the total budget for LCA goes to salaries and benefits. However, for next year, the average salary for our full time teachers is only $19,491. We are working hard to get our teachers’ salaries to a more livable wage. We must continue to do more for our teachers!

The second item is the Re-enrollment Form. Please make sure you complete every aspect of this form. The re-enrollment form assists us in keeping our records on your family accurate. Also, on the back of the Re-enrollment Form is the parent/guardian Statement of Cooperation. Please make sure to read this carefully. It is required that both parents sign this for enrollment to be complete.

The final item is the Student Agreement Form. This form will be required of all students (grades 5-12) indicating that they have read and agree to abide by the guidelines and rules found in the Parent/Student Handbook. Completion of this form is also required for registration to be complete.

Thank you for your prayer and support during this school year. We count it a privilege and great responsibility to assist you in the education of your child. On behalf of the staff and faculty of LCA, we will be praying that the Lord will give you clear direction for next year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.

Yours in Him,

N. Phillip Woods
